Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Drink
Valerie, a backpacker from Virginia who stayed with us, shared this old folk recipe for an apple cider vinegar diet drink that her Grandmother and Mom both sweared by to help them lose weight. Called “Jogging in a Jug”, it was first concocted by a retired Alabama dairy farmer Jack McWilliams based on a recipe handed down from his grandfather. McWilliams claimed his recipe not only aided weight loss and cured him and his wife of arthritis, but also could alleviate heart disease, lower cholesterol, boost longevity and protect users from cancer.
Switchel, an earlier version of the beverage, was a popular summer drink provided to thirsty haymakers in the American colonies in the late 1600s.
